Today Fortnite released
its latest content update, which they call v6.30. This update released a new
limited time game mode, while keeping the other limited time game modes
available to play. They also released a new explosive weapon called dynamite and
a new competitive tournament. This web page will bring you up to speed on all
things they have changed along with hints what will to come with the next
update. We will start off with what has changed!
New Limited Time Game Mode: Wild West
- This game new game mode is quite unique. This game mode may be a tribute to the recently released wild west video game called Red Dead Redemption 2, which has done really well since its release a few weeks back. This game mode sets the scene making the Fortnite play style just like how it would be if this game took place in the west during the cowboy era. They limit the guns to guns that would have been around during this time period. The guns available are the Six Shooter, Hunting Rifle, Pump Shotgun, Double Barrel Shotgun, the Minigun, and dynamite(a new explosive weapon). These old school weapons are going the change the battle style to more up close fighting because range is very limited with this weapon selection. Other changes in this game mode is the reduction of available shields. The only way you can consume shields is with slurp juice, mini shields and half shields have been removed. New Explosive Item: Dynamite
- The new explosive weapon which was mentioned briefly above is also a unique addition the the game. This item actually has already been removed from the game as Fortnite is working to remove some glitches that occurred when players used this item, however, it is expected to return shortly. So how does this new explosive work? Dynamite will come in stacks of 3. It will have a shorter throwing range then grenades and stick bombs. You will have to adjust to the new throwing style. Dynamite will take 5 second to go off after you pull down the right trigger. You can throw it right away or wait a while to shorten the fuse before tossing. No matter what the dynamite will explode after 5 seconds. Dynamite has health point damages of 80 for players and 800 for building making this very useful for taking down structures. The videos of this item being used really explain why is got removed already, as players were able to destroy entire buildings with one stick. Check out Dynamite being used in game-play HERE!
New Competitive Tournament Game Mode: Scavenger Pop-up Duos
- This new competitive game mode is one I am very excited to try out. It is a tournament which any player on Fortnite can participate in if they have a partner to play with. Like the scrimmishes, this tournament will potentially allow players to make money if they qualify for the professional tournament. What is going to make this game mode unique is they are completely changing the play style of this game mode, and are really making it difficult for other players to win solely by out building other opponents. The play style changes are listed below:
- Material cap for wood, brick, and steel, will be reduced to 300 of each. This is a major change from the regular game mode where you can collect 999 of each material and the last Scavenger tournament where materials where capped at 500 of each.
- The drop count of grenades and clingers where increased from 3 to 5. This will make it even more difficult for players to out build opponents as explosives are one of the most useful items in the game for destroying opponents builds. Having more explosives to use at one time can waste much more resources.
- Changes to the storm circle have also been applied to this tournament to keep players on their toes. It is clear that Fortnite wants the players that can adapt to all different styles of play to be recognized as the best in the game. The changes to the storm are a reduced radius of the 3rd circle from 20,000 sq ft or 15,000 sq ft. There is a reduced radius of the 4th circle from 10,000 sq ft to 750 sq ft and now the 4th circle will be the first circle partially outside of the safe zone instead of circle 5. Finally supply drops will drop at an increased rate in later circles and circle 9 will force players to travel twice as far; however, they will have double the time to make it in the circle.
- It makes sense why Epic games wants to reduces the storm sizes in competitive game-play as the majority of players in the Fall Scrimmish did not get eliminated until the final few circles.

What To Expect In The Next Update: Re-balancing of The Pump Shotgun
- In the v6.31 update Fortnite has already announced that it will re-balance the pump shotgun. This update will slightly increase the weapons damage, while slightly decreasing the range. The weapon will have a minimum damage of three pellets, even if just one or two hit the opponent. As a player you will not see damage markers or 8 or 12 anymore if you do not hit a full body shot on your opponent. I am excited for this update to be released because shotguns are my go to weapon in close quarter battle. However, I am a little concerned the pump will now be too powerful for the above average players. Read the official source article HERE!
What To Expect in The Near Future: Snow Covered Map
- Players have noticed what looks to be a storm cloud slowly approaching the island with the new update. This supports the theory that Fortnite is planning on releasing a snow coming map in the near future. It goes along with the frosty new character called A.I.M. Read about how the A.I.M. skin is hinting at a snow covered map in a recent blog post of mine HERE! It is still unclear when the snow covered map will be released or if it will even happen. Expect more hints to come in the next updates.
